For developers of automotive electronics applications, EPCOS – market leader in ceramic multilayer varistors – offers a sample kit with a wide range of these protective components. They feature response times of less than 0.5 ns. The AUTO range assures protection from both electrostatic discharges (ESD) and also overvoltages. Moreover, thanks to their integrated capacitors they can also be used for EMI filtering. In many cases, therefore, these multilayer varistors can replace the MLCCs that are otherwise necessary for the EMI filter function.
The sample kit also contains varistors of the high-speed series optimized to particularly low capacitances of up to 15 pF. They are suited for applications in bus systems such as CAN, LIN, FlexRay or MOST, and prevent signal attenuation. An additional series of varistors is available for applications that make high demands on temperature tolerance up to 150 °C.
