LTCC technology: Highly integrated WLAN module

The R050B is EPCOS’ latest single-package WLAN module. It supports IEEE 802.11 b/g and can also be used for Bluetooth applications. The module integrates the complete RF front end, the power amplifier (PA), the low noise amplifier (LNA) and the WLAN radio IC (Transceiver, Baseband/MAC), all in a single component. Despite its high degree of integration, the module measures a mere 8.2 x 5.5 x 1.4 mm3. Compared with discrete solutions the module saves approximately 80 percent space on the PCB.

In addition to the classic application in notebooks and desktop PCs, the module is designed for WLAN applications in mobile phones, MP3 players, cameras and other portable electronic devices.
