EPCOS has developed a new series of SMT transformers to meet the requirements of Deutsche Telekom’s new VDSL2 network. The transformers support high transmission rates of up to 100 Mbit/s and offer an extensive bandwidth from 138 kHz to 17 MHz. Thanks to their good linearity and low leakage inductances, as well as low parasitic capacitances, they operate with very low distortions and small losses. The transformers are specifically impedance-matched to the new VDSL2 chip set, which carry the designation VINAX from Infineon Technologies, and are recommended in the semiconductor manufacturer’s reference design.
The types B78417A1922A003 and B78417A1937A003 were developed for use in the digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM) in the central office or in the customer premises equipment. With these new products, EPCOS is further extending its leading market position in transformers for broadband networks. T-Com, the fixed-network operator of Deutsche Telekom, is currently rolling out its new VDSL2 network as a pilot project in 10 German cities. On this basis, T-Com plans to offer its customers new broadband services via the existing network infrastructure. These include 100 TV channels, video-on-demand or HDTV programs with transmission rates of up to 50 Mbit/s (download) and 10 Mbit/s (upload).
