Surge arresters

October 2008

World’s smallest arrester

EPCOS, market leader in surge arresters and switching spark gaps, has developed the world’s smallest leaded gas-filled 2-electrode arrester. With a length of 3.5 mm, it has a diameter of just 2.8 mm. The G3 arrester series is available with response voltages ranging from 75 to 600 V DC. Despite its tiny dimensions, it can withstand surge currents of 2 kA with an 8/20 μs ripple and features an insulation resistance of more than 1 GΩ.

The parasitic capacitance of this arrester is less than 0.5 pF at 1 MHz, making it well suited for use in data and telecommunications technology as well as for applications with a high packing density of components.
